Reading does a body good

Some good reads:

The Big Red Fez
Born on a Blue Day
Life of Pi

The Big Red Fez is a quick read by Seth Godin, a marketing guru. If you’re interested in anything related to online marketing, Godin discusses the simple mistakes that online marketers/website owners overlook in their web design. He emphasizes the importance of having information easily accessible on any website, and that users should always be able to find their “goal” at any given page, whether they want to subscribe to something, buy something, or find some information.

Born on a Blue Day is an inspirational autobiography of an autistic savant. Daniel Tammet is a writer with the autistic savant syndrome, which is a rare condition that allows him to have special abilities. He is able to make complex calculations that the normal person can’t do, has the ability to memorize Pi to the 22,500+ digit, and is able to learn any language in a short amount of time. He talks about the problems and challenges he faced while growing up, and everything his parents did to help shape him to become self-sufficient and a contributor to society.

Against All Odds..

Well 25% to be exact, and I lost.

My roommate from senior year of college came to visit from SF tonight. The plan was to catch up, reminisce about the past, and enjoy some All-You-Can-Eat Mongolian BBQ in Pasadena. That was the plan.. at least..

Although I must say dinner was quite pleasant, it all went downhill after I stuffed some jello, pineapples, and coconut pudding into a sesame wrap and offered to pay him a dollar to take a bite. Being the cheap ass that he is, he takes a huge bite of my creation without hesitation. note to self: 1 dollar in the drain.

No problem.. But as soon as everyone was finishing up their eggrolls I suggest that we play credit card roulette for the bill. Nobody wanted to look stingy so everyone agreed to participate. 4 credit cards, 1 loser, 55$ bill.

So we call the waiter over and tell her to choose a card at random. Confused, she takes a look at the credit cards and places the top card to the bottom as she counts 1….. 2… 3…..4. When she stopped on 4, the card on top was David’s card and I get pretty excited. However, FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON SHE DECIDES TO CHOOSE THE CARD RIGHT UNDER IT… WHICH HAPPENED TO BE …YOURS TRULY….

That is all.

note to self: 56$ down the drain. FML

Oh, and welcome back David.

Laptop Cooler 2.0

leave a comment »

Over the past couple months, I have been exploring my interest in photography and today I came to a conclusion: There is no hope for me. However, as a kid I was always taught that hard work and practice pays off. Although I don’t have time for all this, I have decided to make a blog to track my progress throughout the months (or years).

Note: I hope to compensate my lack of skill with some creative compositions or things that may be of interest to you. Otherwise, who would want to read a blog with mediocre photographs and boring content?

Anyway…

Today at work my laptop started overheating and I didn’t know what to do! I am a pretty creative guy so instead of buying a laptop fan at newegg for 20$ I decided to make my own out of water bottles. While this masterpiece was clearly working to some extent, it was not enough. I realized that it was missing a cooling device so I put a cup of iced water right under the middle and BAM! just saved myself 20$!

Everything was going well after I added the cup of iced water, but my arms started to get tired and I realized I needed to have a sip of that water. This was a HUGE mistake. While reaching for the cup, I accidentally knocked it over and spilled iced water all over my desk. And yes, my Photography for Dummies guide just happened to get caught up in the middle of all this. Maybe this is a sign…

clean

On a brighter note, the right side my glass-top table is very clean now. I’ll make sure to set up my laptop cooler on the left side of the table the next time my laptop overheats! :D
